About Lee-Ann

“Photography is the hardest mirror I’ve ever had to hold up to myself. The camera reflects your state of mind and the photograph is a manifestation and reflection of your own psyche. That kind of honest self observation takes a lot of courage. It takes time to peel back the layers of yourself and to show that to the world. ”

I am a visual storyteller and photographic artist from South Africa. My work explores themes of identity, transitions and universal narratives through long-term collaborative projects. There is an overarching theme of celebration in my work and I am interested in using the medium as a mode of celebration and co-creation.

My long term collaborative projects allow subjects to engage in the co-creation of their stories and how they are represented.  As my work evolves I'm stepping more into the role where I hold space for my subjects to co-create with me and direct their images and how they want to be represented. With the help of strong female mentors I am finding my unique voice and creating work that unapologetically says I’m here - this is me.
